Beckenham Primary School
Beckenham Primary School is an Independent Public School.
Beckenham Primary School opened in 1912, celebrating its Centenary in 2012. The school is situated 12 km from Perth’s CBD on the Perth – Armadale train line.
Their school motto, “Share and Care”, embodies the values of tolerance, caring, understanding, thoughtfulness and selflessness which all contribute to a productive and harmonious school climate. The school is fortunate in having a diverse student population with over 40 cultural groups represented.
The school has an enrolment of around 460 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. This figure is expected to remain steady or to increase slightly in the next few years due to several residential construction projects in the area involving multiple dwellings.
Beckenham PS has educated several generations of the same family with some students having parents or grandparents who attended the school. The school has a multi-cultural student cohort with over 40 ethnic groups represented.
The school is well resourced and features an Art Room, fully equipped Kitchen and Science rooms. The original building has been added to several times since the school first opened with the latest additions being a new library and a classroom block incorporating an art room, opening in 2010. In 2011 the school received a grant from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program using it to convert the old library into a kitchen for use by students. Complementing the kitchen is an extensive vegetable and herb garden supplying fresh ingredients for cooking.
The teaching staff is a mix of highly experienced and recently graduated teachers who are committed to providing a high quality of education to the students in their care. Teachers are ably supported by dedicated mainstream and special needs education assistants.
